"....Variations on a 2 or 3 ply wipe to the Tune of Freedom...?"

ArtSpace 30th year Anniversary Reunion Exhibit, New Haven, CT  Curated By Sarah Fritchey, (June 2017)
Commissioned performance* featuring MICA Alums Shola Cole (MRSA'15) & James 'Ari' Montford (Hoff '78), restaging his early work "Will he pee his pants and...Classical New Blackheads?" curated by Suzan Shutan in Subversive Issues in Media

Using concepts of Lady Liberty, the alter-ego and the Super She-ro, I provide commentary on shared experiences in Montfords early piece speaking to the Black, and Native American Male existence and my life as Artistic, Afro-Carribbean, Queer, Female and Immigrant. I positively embody and repurpose  Montford's original  and  ropes and head covering within a more unbound, physically exploratory context with caped qualities befitting a super-she-ro. Dialog also shifts towards the gravity and task of the  "othered" existence in the 21st century and mostly notably in the Trump Era. Personal narrative and excerpts are interwoven with a score utilising  Emily Lazarus' poem 'The New Colossus' and audience engagement through interactive roles and tasks.
(Charcoal, media, reused/repurposed fabric & ropes and audience engagement)
